Be an example! Selectively collect used batteries

  1595 kg of used batteries were collected from the schools from Brasov County

The students from the 131 schools from Brasov County collected 1595 kg of waste batteries and accumulators in the project  “Be an example! Selectively collect used batteries”.

Between March 1 to June 1, 2013, ECOTIC through ECOTIC BAT and the Environmental Protection Agency Brasov, Brasov County School Inspectorate and Rian Consult developed in all the 131 schools in Brasov the programme  “Be an example! Selectively collect used batteries”.

Through this programme, the organizers have focused their efforts in shaping positive examples in society regarding the environmental friendly behavior, the programme encouraging responsible attitudes of students and teachers towards the waste, especially from waste of batteries (WB / A).The habit of selective collection should become familiar, one solution is the education in this respect.

The activities in “Be an example! Selectively collect used batteries “targeted both informative/educational side and practical component with the selective collection of waste batteries and accumulators in containers provided by ECOTIC BAT.

Between June 1 to 10, ECOTIC BAT authorized collectors gathered waste batteries collected in educational institutions. In the ranking given by these quantities, the first five educational units that collected the most waste received a video projector and a projection screen from ECOTIC.

The top five ranked educational institutions are:

  1.     Secondary School no. 5 of Brasov
  2.     Secondary School Zarnesti
  3.     Secondary School no. 14 of Brasov
  4.     Secondary School no. 11, “St.O.Iosif”
  5.     Secondary School no. 30 of Brasov

Through the efforts of all those involved in the project – students, teachers, parents, local communities – in these schools were collected half the total amount of used batteries in the project.

The activities developed by the organizers of this project with the support and community involvement by students had as result the collection of  1,595 kilograms of recyclable waste batteries.
Waste collected in this project was picked up by licensed collectors and all batteries were recycled in accordance with legislative provisions.
