County programs for correct management of electronic equipment waste through the involvement of local authorities

The National Agency for Environmental Protection together with ECOTIC started on July 22, 2014, the program "PRACTICES AND EXPERIENCES IN THE FIELD OF SELECTIVE COLLECTION OF WASTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (WEEE)". This program is addressed to mayors and sanitation operators operating in the counties of the country. The program is part of the ECOTIC Caravan project, co-financed by the Life instrument of the European Union and continues in 2015.

The initiative is dedicated exclusively to town halls and sanitation operators in each county where this program will take place. The organizers aim to bring to the forefront the issue of electronic equipment waste management, to identify and apply the best methods of collection and recycling. 

Within the program, town halls and sanitation operators from various counties have the opportunity to capitalize on the 9-year experience of the ECOTIC Association in organizing the national WEEE management system. The exchange of experience of the participants within this program will allow the local public administration authorities from the respective counties to be able to design and apply the best WEEE collection solutions from the population, economic agents, public institutions.

The program includes, in a first stage, the development of a working meeting at the headquarters of the Agency for Environmental Protection in the county concerned. This meeting brings together all parties involved in the proper management of this waste stream. According to GEO 5/2015 on waste electrical and electronic equipment, in order to achieve an average rate of selective collection at the national level of at least 4 kg / inhabitant / year.

The second stage of the program "PRACTICES AND EXPERIENCES IN THE FIELD OF SELECTIVE COLLECTION OF WASTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (WEEE)”Involves the voluntary organization by the visited City Halls and sanitation operators in the county of specific actions, respectively: statistical analysis of the situation of WEEE in households or offices of economic agents, public institutions, establishment of WEEE collection points for the population, organizing collection programs from the population.

The Agency for Environmental Protection in each county - host of the project, based on the partnership concluded with ECOTIC, will monitor these activities throughout their development.

The first stage of the program is achieved through the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Union, being included in the project called ECOTIC Caravan.

On October 28, 2015, the program was hosted by APM Dambovita, in Targoviste.

On May 11, 2015, the program "Practices and experiences in the field of selective collection of WEEE" arrived in Iasi. It was the seventh seminar of the program, after those held in Slatina, Braila, Caras-Severin, Botosani, Bacau and Suceava

On May 10, 2015, the program "Practices and experiences in the field of selective collection of WEEE" arrived in Suceava. Hosted by the Suceava Environmental Protection Agency, the seminar was attended by many representatives of the City Hall, sanitation operators and owners' associations.

The meeting in Bacau, which took place on May 28, 2015, was attended by representatives of 18 local authorities, as well as representatives of a collection company and a sanitation company.

On January 29, 2015, the Seminar took place at the headquarters of the Agency for Environmental Protection in Botosani. The representatives of 10 sanitation operators, 7 representatives of the town halls from the county and the representatives of AMP Botosani were present.

The host of the Seminar from Resita was the Agency for Environmental Protection Caras - Severin. The seminar took place on September 02, 2014 and was attended by representatives of 13 mayoralties and as many representatives of sanitation operators.

On August 27, 2014, the Seminar took place at the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency in Braila. Representatives of 19 town halls in the county and 6 sanitation operators were present. The meeting was constructive for all parties involved.

The first event took place on July 22, 2014, in Slatina, with the support of the Olt Environmental Protection Agency. The meeting organized together with the Agency for Environmental Protection Olt was a real success, being present at the seminar the representatives of over 20 mayors and sanitation operators from Olt County. The activities in this county have already entered the second stage of the program.
