October 14 is International E-Waste Day

Day of 14 October since 2018, a number of organizations, at an international level, have brought to the attention of the general public, the need for the separate collection of electrical and electronic equipment waste and their recycling. Every year, worldwide, 14 million tons of electrical and electronic equipment waste end up being thrown away with household waste. Thus, a number of important raw materials are lost, some of them considered critical: aluminum, copper, zinc and many others.

This year's slogan of the campaign initiated by the WEEE Forum and its members: “Participate in the electrical waste hunt! Recover them, recycle them and give them a new life!” focuses on involving the general public in identifying the electrical equipment they have around the house, which they have not used for years or are broken and end up being forgotten in drawers or in various storage spaces in the hope of future use.

In this year's edition, a number of people were interviewed, at an international level, including from Romania, related to their motivation for the correct delivery of electrical and electronic equipment waste. They were also able to find out the CO2 footprint saved by handing in WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) for recycling. Video is available here.

In the promotion campaign a International Day of E-Waste, ECOTIC filmed a series of interviews at collection points. One of the people is Claudia, who chose to hand over used electronics for recycling at a municipal collection point in Bucharest and who believes that it is a habit that each of us should have. The video clip is available here.
