ECO-JOURNALISM FOR A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

de | May 2, 2018 | News

Environmental protection is our task, whether we choose to do it actively or through the promotion of best practices in the field. Unfortunately, positive examples, are, often times, are overlooked by the media, rather the audience is presented with different ecological catastrophes.

In this context, ECOTIC and the Union of Professional Journalists in Romania launched on the 3rd of May a national ecologic journalism competition entitled “Eco-Journalism for a Clean Environment” in order to promote models in the field of environmental protection and conservation of the planet’s resources.

Journalists, reporters, or university students from Romanian faculties, are invited to get involved in environmental protection by sending videos and written materials accompanied by relevant photographs, from the 3rd of May to the 14th of September to jurnalism@www.ecotic.ro. The topics focus on positive examples developed by companies, educational institutions, NGOs, public institutions, or local communities such as planting, greening, waste collection projects and waste prevention initiatives, among others.

The best and most innovative 10 materials - 5 videos and 5 written materials - chosen by a jury composed of environmental experts and journalists will be presented on the ECOTIC Facebook page and the winners will be voted by Facebook users.

The competition schedule is as follows:

  • 1st Phase - 3rd May– 14th September 2018 - sending videos and written material;
  • 2nd Phase - 17th - 19th September 2018 - first jury assessment;
  • 3rd Phase - 20th September - 5th October 2018 - voting the winning pieces on ECOTIC's Facebook page and website.

ECOTIC will award two prizes, one award for each category: a camera for the video category and a notebook for the writing category, both state-of-the-art.

The award ceremony will take place during the 10th edition of the Clean Environment Gala in December.

The “Eco-journalism for a clean environment” competition is part of the awareness raising activities implemented by ECOTIC throughout the years and targeting audiences of all ages and has, as a longterm objective, the creation of a journalist network invigorated by ecologic values.

„We are launching this contest from the desire to promote, with the media's support, projects and initiatives meant to stimulate the creativity of local communities in regards to environmental protection. We believe that highlighting good practices, little known to the general audience, will contribute to developing a pro-active attitude of Romanians towards improving environmental factors and resource efficiency, ”Valentin Negoita, ECOTIC's President said.
